Mohan Foundation plans Metro Retro-Ramp Walk to promote organ donation in Hyderabad

Retro Ramp Walk

AMEERPET: MOHAN Foundation is organising an event at Ameerpet Metro Station where 27 prominent personalities from the media, doctors, doctor couples, social activists, organ transplant recipients, donor families, and cinema artists will walk the ramp to show their support for organ donation.

The Metro Retro-Ramp Walk for a Cause will commence at 6 p.m. on June 15, 2024 (Saturday) at Ameerpet Metro Station. Popular actor Vishwak Sen will be the chief guest at the event. Over 500,000 patients in our country are suffering from end-stage organ failure.

Although organ transplantation is possible, there is a severe shortage of donor organs. In Telangana alone, more than 4,000 patients are on the active waiting list for kidneys, liver, heart, and lungs. This event aims to highlight the importance of organ donation and educate the general public about this critical cause.

The Mohan Foundation, a 27-year-old non-profit organisation, promotes organ donation across India. On this occasion, 27 celebrities will walk the ramp.

Given the high number of Metro Rail commuters on the evening of Saturday, June 15, this event will be held at Ameerpet Metro Station. The Mohan Foundation’s goal is to educate the public about the benefits of organ donation and how they can help save lives.

Organ donation involves the surgical procedure of organ transplantation, in which organs are transferred from one person to another. Donors can be living or deceased people, while recipients are those who receive the donated organs. Organs that can be transplanted include the heart, kidneys, liver, lungs, pancreas, intestines, skin, or thymus.

Tissues such as bones, muscles, tendons, corneas, and veins can also be transplanted. Kidneys are transplanted most frequently, followed by the liver and heart. The demand for organs is high, and donors must agree to donate.

Raising awareness of organ donation is of paramount importance, as it can save countless lives and give a new lease of life to those in need.
