Kirana shop owner arrested in Begum Bazar

BEGUMBAZAR: The South-East Zone Task Force team, in coordination with Shahinayathgunj police, conducted a raid at Vinod Trading Company in the Fish Market of Begum Bazar and apprehended the shop owner for illegally selling adulterated black pepper at exorbitant rates to needy customers. During the raids, the police seized 700 kg of tainted black pepper, worth Rs. 4 lakhs.

Vinod Kumar Gehlot (39), a resident of Begum Bazar, operated his family’s wholesale Kirana business and ran Vinod Trading Company in the Fish Market, where he sold adulterated black pepper mixed with papaya seeds at inflated prices.

During interrogation, Gehlot admitted that he purchased adulterated black pepper from Mysore, Karnataka, at a low price and stores it at his shop, and sold it to customers at market prices for higher profits. He also acknowledged the health hazards posed by his adulterated products.

A case has been registered against Gehlot under Cr. No. 89/2024, Sections 420, 336, 272, 273 of the IPC at Shahinayathgunj Police Station. Gehlot was previously involved in a similar case, registered under Sections 420, 272, 273, read with 120(b) of the IPC at Hussaini Alam police station in 2015.

The raid was conducted under the supervision of A. Srinivasa Rao, Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police, Task Force, Hyderabad, D. Venkat Reddy, South-East Zone Task Force Inspector, L. Balu Chowhan, Inspector of Police, Shahinayathgunj police station, and sub-inspector M. Anantha Chary, P. Sai Ram, along with the South-East Zone Task Force team and Shahinayathgunj police station staff.
