Heavy Rainfall In Hyderabad Brings Relief From Heatwaves

Hyderabad: The city of Hyderabad has witnessed heavy rains on Tuesday evening. Giving a relief from a series of heatwaves and extreme temperatures, the city has cooled down to below normal temperatures, as the rain hits heavily. Several parts of the city, including Secunderabad, Kukatpally, Moosapet, KPHB, Balanagar, Fatehnagar, Sanath Nagar and others have received a record rainfall and several low lying areas have been inundated.

According to the Telangana State Development Planning Society (TSDPS), several parts of the city, coming under the limits of Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) received moderate to heavy rainfall. While Qutubullahpur received 40.5mm, Kukatpally and Balanagar received 39mm, Serlingampalli and Ramachandrapuram received around 37mm among others.

Meanwhile, according to the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), Hyderabad has been impacted in an Orange level due to rains, where there are minor damages to several unsecured structures. Along with Hyderabad, Jangaon, Mahbubnagar, Nagarkurnool, Nalgonda, Rangareddy, Suryapet, Vikarabad and Yadadri Bhuvanagiri has been impacted. As per IMD, these places received ‘Moderate rains and Moderate thunderstorms with maximum surface wind speed between 41-61 mph.”

Heavy rain causes traffic jams in parts of the city

With sudden rains towards the end of the day, several people who were returning from their respective workplaces were stuck in the traffic jam. Water logging has been reported in several junctions, further worsening the traffic chaos. Several netizens have also shared the situation of their surroundings via social media platforms.

Meanwhile, the Disaster Response Force in Hyderabad has also mentioned that it has alerted its staff in various locations. GHMC commissioner, Ronald Ross is reviewing the situation of rains in order to clear the rain water and to clear the fallen trees. Further all the Engineering officials were also requested to review the situation in their respective areas and to report it to the higher officials.
