GHMC’s Disaster Response teams Expands from Hyderabad to Outer Ring Road

Hyderabad: Telangana Chief Secretary Shanti Kumari has informed that Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) Disaster Response Teams now would be expanded up to Hyderabad Outer Ring Road (ORR). The move was initiated to deal effectively with heavy rains and other calamities and avoid any kind of trouble to the citizens.

Recently, the Chief Minister has issued instructions to set up a suitable system to prevent trouble to the people even if there are sudden rains and floods up to the outer ring road of Hyderabad city.

The decision was taken in the presence of Municipal Department Chief Secretary Dana Kishore, GHMC Incharge Commissioner Amrapali, GHMC EVDM Director Prakash Reddy and others participated in the special meeting held at the Telangana Secretariat.

Speaking on this occasion, CS Shanti Kumari explained that the Disaster Response Department of GHMC is being strengthened and for this. “Additional staff and appropriate machinery will be provided to deal with disasters. Already, 30 DRF teams are working under the jurisdiction of GHMC, in addition to these, 15 more teams will be formed and their services will be extended to ORR.”

Further with the presence of a large number of pharma companies in Hyderabad, Shanti Kumari suggested that special teams with special training for chemical fire prevention should be formed.

Meanwhile, the CS said that GHMC officials should take measures in coordination with the relevant departments such as Municipal, Police, Electricity, water board etc and see that people are not put to any hardships. It was identified that there are at least 141 problematic locations in Hyderabad.

Apart from Hyderabad, DRF teams should be formed in Warangal, Karimnagar, Khammam and other cities and the existing DRF teams should be strengthened. The officials were advised to work in coordination with the National Disaster Response Force(NDRF) during calamities. She also directed to study the performance of disaster response teams in the major cities like Mumbai, Delhi, Chennai and Bangalore.
