Vanastalipuram: A man impersonating as a woman and indulged in dating fraud has been arrested by the Cyberabad cyber crime police. The accused used to send nude pictures of women to win the trust of the victims and exploit them.

In one such case, the accused Megaraj Dinesh, created a profile impersonating a woman named “Swetha Shetty” in a dating app and contacted the victim and started a conversation and made the victim believe that she was genuinely interested in him. Falling prey to the same, the victim sent around four lakhs to the accused. After releasing the he was cheated the victim approached the police and lodged a complaint. Subsequently an investigation is launched into the same.

Cyber Crime police of Cyberabad commissionerate hobbed in on the accused Megaraj Dinesh and took him into custody for further investigation.

Explaining the Modus operandi of the accused Cyber crime police said, “The fraudster proficiently creates a fake user profile in the Dating apps such as QuackQuack, Tinder, Bumble, Cupid and Indian Dating. Using the fake profile the accused used to lure the men impersonating as woman. And initiate a virtual relationship through chat. Further to gain the trust of victims the accused used to send nude pictures of others The accused used to deceive the victim in the pretext of friendship, love and marriage and exploit them”.

The accused used to indulge in gambling through different gaming apps like Teen Pathi Gold, 1 X Bet,Bet Winner,Dash Rummy and Melbet.

Do Not share personal information

Cyberabad cyber crime police advised the person who are searching for potential partners to not use dating applications and not to contact or share personal information to any others over the internet. Further they advised that if anyone encounters a potential scammer, report them to the dating platform and relevant authorities. This helps protect others from falling victim to the same scam.

Cyberabad Cyber crime Inspector K. Ravi Kumar, Anusha and Aruna- Woman Police Constable, Rajesh, Ch. Rajesh Khanna, Raj Kumar- police constables are involved in identifying and arresting the notorious cybercrime offender.
