Telangana State Medical Council Crackdowns Against Fake Doctors

Hyderabad: For the first time in Hyderabad, Telangana State Medical Council (TGMC earlier TSMC) conducted inspections in the city and unveiled dozens of fake doctors operating hospitals/clinics operating hospitals/clinics in the city. Over the past week TGMC ensured that around forty cases have been registered against the fake doctors throughout the state. This crackdown was launched across the state as part of the wider campaign (TGMC) to protect, promote and maintain the health and safety of the public.

On Thursday, Members of Telangana State Medical Council inspected centres of fake doctors who are playing with people’s lives by providing medical treatment without qualification in IDPL, Chintal, and Shapur areas. Eight members of separate TSMC members teams including Dr. Pratibha Lakshmi, Dr. Kiran Kumar, Dr. Sunny Davis, Dr. Imran Ali, Dr. K Vishnu, Pandu conducted inspections at different centers at the same time.

Various norms being flouted

Speaking to the Hyderabad Mail, Dr. Pratibha Lakshmi, TGSC Elected Member explained that various norms were being flouted which emerged during their inspection. “They found people who had admitted patients, who were giving large amounts of antibiotics, and many types of scientific equipment were found”. She further added that “Apart from putting up a board calling themselves as doctors, they have also set up medical shops and diagnostic centers in connection with them,” said Dr Prathibha. She further advised people to not risk their health by seeking medical treatment from such unqualified persons.

The team is going to submit their inquiry report to the council as well as the district medical officer and not only close down their centres but also ensure that an FIR is registered against the fake doctors, added Dr. Pratibha Lakshmi.

Inspections were not done as there were no elections held for medical council

Dr. Pratibha Lakshmi further said, “In the last 16 years elections were not held for TGMC formerly TSMC, resulting in no inspections being conducted by TGMC. However, elections were recently held in January, and new members were elected, after which we began conducting raids throughout the state.”

“Members of the Telangana State Medical Council have been conducting inspections in the centres of fake doctors for the past few weeks. So far around forty FIRs have been registered, recently two fake doctors were remanded and sent to Chanchalguda Jail,” said Dr. Pratibha Lakshmi, TSMC Elected Member.
