Tragic Wall Collapse: Seven Lives Lost in Bachupally

HYDERABAD: Seven individuals lost their lives yesterday as a retaining wall collapsed at a construction site in Bachupally. Incident occurred following heavy rains on Tuesday evening. Deceased include a four-year-old child and a woman. Seven otheres were injured in the incident.

The deceased include Himanshu (4), Geetha (32), Tirupati (20), Raju (25), Shankar (22), Ram Yadav (34), and Kushi.  They were identified as migrant workers from Odhisha and Chhattisgarh.

The construction site in Renuka Ellamma colony at which incident took place is being developed by “Rize Developers”, which was founded by Aravind Reddy. Heavy rains and summer storm caused a compound wall to fall on workers living in the labor camp sheds.

Some survivors mentioned that they attempted to rescue them, but were unable to do so due to a collapsed wall. The bodies were retrieved on Wednesday morning using an excavator and taken to Gandhi Hospital for postmortem examination.

Rain and thunderstorms disrupted normal life in Hyderabad:

As heavy rainfall hit the city and various parts of Telangana on Tuesday. Waterlogging in several areas caused traffic congestion, with trees also being uprooted. The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) head office recorded the highest rainfall of 84.5 mm between 8:30 am and 6 pm on Tuesday, according to the Telangana State Development Planning Society. To address the situation, Disaster Relief Force (DRF) teams were deployed by GHMC officials to clear water stagnation and fallen trees in different parts of the city. Principal Secretary Danakishore and GHMC Commissioner Ronald Rose visited waterlogged areas to provide instructions to the DRF teams on the ground. While Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy was campaigning for the Lok Sabha polls in Warangal. He reviewed the situation and directed officials to promptly drain the water from the roads and restore electricity supply.
