Telangana Police recovered 26,833 Mobiles in one year using CEIR portal

HYDERABAD: Telangana State Police has recovered 26,833 mobile devices in the past year since the launch of the CEIR portal, ranking second in the country.

The CEIR (Central Equipment Identity Register) Portal, developed by the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) to combat mobile theft. It was officially launched nationwide on May 17, 2023. The initiative began on a trial basis in Telangana state on April 19, 2023.

Smt. Shikha Goel, IPS, Addl. DGP, CID is the designated Nodal Officer for the CEIR portal in Telangana State, which operates in all 780 Police Stations. The progress of the CEIR portal is overseen by ADGP, and CID. Which lead to the recovery of 26,833 lost or stolen mobile devices in 365 days, with the latest 1000 recovered in just 11 days and returned to their owners. On average, 73 mobiles are recovered daily in the state.

Key milestones

Recovery of 4,489 mobiles in the initial 100 days post-launch, 6,714 in 200 days, and 15,630 in the subsequent 165 days are done first year.

The highest number of recoveries in Telangana State were made by Hyderabad Commissionerate with 4,348 mobile devices. It followed by Cyberabad Commissionerate with 2,772, and Rachakonda Commissionerate with 2,767 mobile devices.

To improve user experience and efficiency for Telangana citizens, the Telangana Police, in collaboration with DoT, has successfully integrated the CEIR portal with the TS Police Citizen Portal. Citizens are encouraged to use this service on the TS Police Citizen Portal to report lost or missing mobile devices.

Dr. Lavanya NJP, SP, Cyber Crime, CID, T.S. Hyderabad, along with DOT officials including Sri Y. Sreenivasa Rao, DDG Security, Sri Yeshendra Kumar Bansod, Director Security, Sri Lakshmana Kumar K, Assistant Director (Security Audit), and Ch. Suresh Babu, Inspector of IT Cell, CID, is supervising the implementation of the CEIR application in the state.
