Telangana JUDA continues strike amid unmet demands

Hyderabad: After a slew of meetings with health authorities, the Telangana Junior doctors Association (T-JUDA) decided to continue the statewide indefinite strike on Tuesday.The decision follows unmet demands related to hostel facilities, infrastructure improvements, and security measures, even as some budgetary and stipend issues were addressed.

TJUDA met Telangana Health minister Damodar Rajanarsimha and discussed the issues on Monday. Speaking about the discussion, one of the junior doctors who participated in the meeting said, “ The Health minister has released a Budget Release Order(BRO) including budget relaxation for stipends for a period of one year (2024-25) budget now under the control of DME DR Vani. Further regarding regularisation of stipends in future, the minister stated that this is an experimental order which has been released based on the outcome this will be reviewed periodically any changes if needed will be made subsequently”.

Junior doctors were assured to construct a new Osmania hospital building, “the Health minister has expressed the commitment of the government towards the construction of the OGH new building”.

Regarding hostel buildings and Roads in Kakatiya Medical college(KMC), a proposal has been sent from the health minister with budget estimates to the finance department and awaiting sanction order.Concerning transport facilities in the new medical colleges, the minister noted that the budget has been allocated to the DME, who is authorized to raise a proposal for the same. For security issues, the minister has directed the DME to hold a meeting with the home department to discuss the deployment of the Special Protection Force.

Subsequently a meeting was held with DME and discussed about the guidelines for regularisation of stipends, the need for a meeting with the home department for special protection force and regarding the transport facilities for new medical colleges.

DME has issued a circular with a proper timeline of each and every step for regular release of stipends. DME has promised to hold a meeting with the home department for the deployment of security forces.

“However regarding new hostel facilities, roads in KMC and deployment of security forces no proper clarity has been given henceforth we will continue strike,” said TJUDA in a statement after the meeting.
