Telangana Cmo Social Media Handles Under Scrutiny For Violating Mcc

Somajiguda: Dileep Konatham, former Director of Digital Media with the Government of Telangana complaints against the social media handles of the Chief Ministers office in Telangana for alleged violation of the Model Code of Conduct. He wrote a letter addressed to the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of Telangana, Vikas Raj on Tuesday and listed his concerns.

It is pertinent to note that, earlier in the day, Chief Minister, Revanth Reddy along with senior Congress leaders paid tributes to former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi on his 33rd death anniversary at Somajiguda circle in the city. The same was shared by the Telangana Chief Ministers Office, official social media handle.

Highlighting the same and reposting the post made by the Telangana CMO handle, Konatham Dileep posted this letter. Dileep mentioned that “I want to bring to your attention the blatant violation of the Model Code of Conduct by the official social media handles of the Office of the Chief Minister of Telangana.”

He further added that “the official social media handles of the Chief Minister are not supposed to post any updates or photographs/videos when the Model Code of Conduct is in place. However, the official social media handles of the Telangana Chief Minister’s Office are blatantly flouting the MCC and are posting regular updates and photos/videos.”

‘Even PMO’s handle is not violating MCC’

Dileep further said that even the Prime Minister’s office is not violating the MCC, but the Telangana CMO handles are flouting the norms and urged the commission to take strict action.

“I am appalled that the current dispensation in Telangana is getting away with such a serious violation. I urge you to immediately intervene and pass on necessary instructions to the Chief Minister’s Office and the Chief Secretary of Telangana to immediately delete all the updates made on the CMO social media handles after the MCC came into effect, and also to desist from posting any updates until June 5th, 2024. The least I expect from your esteemed office is to pass strictures against those officials involved in this mischief,” said Konatham Dileep in his letter.
