Task Force conducts inspections at Madhapur food establishments

La Pino Pizza

Hyderabad: A task force from the Commissioner of Food Safety conducted inspections of food establishments in the Madhapur area on Friday, June 14, 2024. They discovered several significant issues.

During an inspection at La Pino’s Pizza in Madhapur, it was found that several ingredients, such as refined vegetable fat mix, African piripiri dressing, and Pranco bread crumbs, had exceeded their expiration date and had to be discarded.

Additionally, semi-prepared food items like pasta, paneer, chicken seekh kebabs, smoked chicken, and chicken salami were unlabeled and disposed of as a result.

The inspection also revealed that the food business operator (FBO) did not have medical fitness certificates for the food handlers on site. However, pest control records were available. The FSSAI license, a mandatory requirement for food businesses in India, was displayed at a prominent location, but it was not a true copy.

During the inspection at The Chocolate Room, it was discovered that many food items were not properly labeled. As a result, unlabeled items such as tasty beans and Thai curry sauce were confiscated. Additionally, expired food items, including mocktail syrup, icing sugar, rosemary leaves, cinnamon powder, cashews, and chicken breast strips, were found and disposed of.

It was also learned that a recent inspection by the Telangana Food Safety Department’s Task Force has uncovered violations at tomato sauce manufacturing units in Hyderabad. On June 10th, 2024, inspections in the Nacharam and Jeedimetla areas revealed that two facilities were not following proper food safety protocols.

Both Sri Jyothi Food Industries, the producer of JL Continental Sauce, and Agarwal Food Products, the maker of Sipp Tomato Sauce, have been discovered to have food handlers working without the necessary medical fitness certificates. This poses a potential health risk, as these certificates are meant to ensure that food handlers do not have any contagious diseases that could be transmitted through the products.

Furthermore, the premises of Agarwal Food Products did not have proper insect-proof screens, which could have allowed pests to contaminate the food during the manufacturing process. The Food Safety Department is expected to take action against these manufacturers to ensure they comply with regulations.

These findings highlight the importance of regular food safety inspections to ensure compliance with regulations and protect consumers from potential health risks.
