HYDERABAD: Six BRS MLCs making a notable political change by aligning with the Congress party, boosting its MLC count to 12. Dande Vitthal, Bhanuprasad Rao, MS Prabhakar, Boggarapu Dayanand, Yegge Mallesham, and Basvaraju Saraiha are the MLCs who changed their loyalty. Revanth Reddy, the Chief Minister, and Deepadas Munshi, the AICC in-charge, greeted them at the Chief Minister’s residence in Jubilee Hills as they joined the Congress.

Midnight defection causes major political stir

This defection occurred around 1 AM, with the six MLCs switching allegiance without any prior hint or public attention. The BRS faced a significant blow as these Members of the Legislative Council (MLCs) defected to the Congress party, creating a political stir.

The defectors Bhanuprasad, Baswaraju Sarayya, Dande Vithal, MS Prabhakar, Yegge Mallesham, and Boggarapu Dayanand officially joined Congress in a quiet yet strategic move. These entries into Congress party were happened in the presence of Telangana CM Revanth Reddy and state Congress in-charge Deepa Das Munshi. These entries into the Congress have done a substantial damage to the BRS party.

On Thursday evening, the six MLCs gathered at a hotel in Hyderabad. Altogether by 11:30 PM, they went to Revanth Reddy’s residence in Jubilee Hills. As soon as the Chief Minister returned from his Delhi trip, the defection ceremony commenced, attended by Revenue Minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy, former Minister Sudarshan Reddy, and senior Congress leader Surender Reddy. This merge has happened within minutes of Revanth Reddy’s arrival from Delhi.

Previous defections intensify BRS’s troubles

From this merge and previous mergers BRS’s strength have even worsened as six of it’s MLAs had already joined in Congress. These previous MLAs entries into Congress party includes Danam Nagender, Kadiyam Srihari, Tellam Venkatrav, Pocharam Srinivas Reddy, Sanjay Kumar, and Kale Yadayya. Adding to this, Amit, son of Council Chairman Gutta Sukhender Reddy, has also joined Congress. BRS, already struggling with internal issues, now faces these recent challenges with this new wave of defections.

The exit of six MLCs adds complexity to BRS’s situation. The party’s leadership finds it challenging to uphold unity and morale amidst the departures from BRS. As key figures and their followers move to Congress, it seems that BRS’s political power and impact are decreasing.
