Ex-minister Sarvey Sathyanarayana files nomination as rebel candidate in Secunderabad

Sarvey Satyanarayana

Hyderabad/Mahendra Hills/Secunderabad cantonment: The Indian National Congress party in Telangana is facing the drubbing from Madiga leaders like Manda Krishna Madiga and Moutkupalli Narasimhulu for not giving tickets to Madiga leaders for contesting the Lok Sabha elections. In this context, another senior Congress leader, who is also a former union minister, Sarvey Sathyanarayana joined the bandwagon by expressing his frustration for not selecting him for contesting from the Secunderabad Cantonment bye election race. Earlier this month Congress has approved the candidature of Sri Ganesh to contest from the Secunderabad Cantonment.

Sarvey Sathyanarayana filed two nominations one as a candidate of Indian National Congress(INC) and another as an Independent candidate. It is pertinent to note that after the untimely death of Secunderabad cantonment sitting MLA and Barath Rastra Samith(BRS) leader Lasya Nadhitha led to the Secunderabad cantonment bye election.

Upset over Congress giving ticket to Sri Ganesh

Speaking to the media before filing nominations Sarvey Sathyanarayana criticised Revanth Reddy for giving ticket to Sri Ganesh who recently joined the congress party from BJP. Sathyanarayana stressed that “Cantonment has a majority of Madiga population. Rather than giving a ticket to a Madiga leader like me, Sri Ganesh was chosen.” He demanded the congress party to reconsider their decision and hand him B-form. Further he warned to contest from Malkajgiri parliament and Secunderabad Cantonment legislative assembly elections as a congress rebel candidate.

Sarvey Sathyanarayana won Siddipet assembly in 2005 and later in 2009 he won Malkajgiri Parliament seat and worked as minister in UPA regime in 2012. Further he unsuccessfully contested as Secunderabad Cantonment in 2019. Now Congress has given Malkajgiri MP ticket to Patnam Sunita Mahendar Reddy and Secunderabad cantonment seat to Sri Ganesh.

Secunderabad cantonment is going to polls on the same day as the Seventeen parliamentary constituencies across Telangana state on May 13, 2024. And the results would be announced on June 4.

Meanwhile, Bharat Rashtra Samithi(BRS) fielded Lasya Nadhitha’s sister G Viveditha, BJP has fielded M A Srinivas as its candidate for Secunderabad cantonment bye election.
