RS Praveen Kumar criticizes CM Revanth Reddy over state anthem recomposition

Rs Praveen Kumar Slams Cm Over Altering Telangana's Iconic State Anthem.

Hyderabad: Telangana’s official state anthem has sparked controversy after noted Music director MM Keeravani, who won an Oscar award for Naatu Naatu song, re-composed it.

RS Praveen Kumar criticized CM Revanth Reddy for allowing MM Keeravani to recompose Telangana’s state anthem. He argued that this anthem is not a song like “Naatu Naatu,” but a symbol of sacrifice and resistance against Andhra rulers. Kumar emphasized that Ande Sri’s original tune, sung by millions during the 2011 student protest at Osmania University, should remain unchanged. He suggested that Reddy might not understand the anthem’s significance since he wasn’t present during those events. Kumar said that he was present and witnessed the anthem’s emotional impact firsthand.

Critics urge respect for Ande Sri

Ande Sri’s original composition became an anthem for Telangana during its fight for statehood. The anthem was sung by millions during protests, particularly on January 3, 2011, at Osmania University. Many believe that changing the tune disrespects the sacrifices made by countless individuals who fought for Telangana’s identity and autonomy.

Prominent voices in Telangana, including Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, have faced criticism. They argue that this move undermines Telangana’s cultural heritage. Critics have urged Reddy to respect Telangana’s emotions and support local talent. They remind him that Telangana and its people have long resisted Andhra dominance and exploitation.

Historical and emotional significance

The controversy highlights a deeper sentiment among Telangana’s people, who feel their cultural symbols should be preserved. They argue that the state anthem should not be altered to suit entertainment values, as it represents the collective struggle and dreams of four crore people.

As Telangana prepares to celebrate its formation, the debate over the state anthem’s tune continues. The public remains divided on whether to sing the re-composed anthem or stick to Ande Sri’s original, reflecting the ongoing tension between honoring the past and embracing change. The decision could significantly impact the cultural and political landscape of Telangana.
