Nampally Court returns phone tapping case chargesheet for second time
Hyderabad: In a setback to the Special Investigation Team (SIT) of the Hyderabad police, the Nampally Court has returned the chargesheet in the alleged phone tapping case for the second time within a week. The court’s decision arises from critical deficiencies observed in the legal proceedings.
The court’s primary contention concerns the absence of requisite government permission to prosecute the four accused officials named in the chargesheet. These officials served at the time of the case’s registration and the subsequent filing of charges. According to legal protocols, permission from the government is mandatory for prosecuting officials during their tenure.
In addition to the lack of prosecution permission, the court highlighted discrepancies between the chargesheet and the supporting documents submitted as evidence. “Dates crucial to the events cited in the chargesheet do not align with those documented in the submitted evidentiary materials,” a court official stated.

Furthermore, the court noted that not all material evidence gathered during the SIT’s investigation had been fully deposited before the court, casting further doubt on the comprehensiveness of the prosecution’s submission.
This latest development follows a similar instance last week when the court initially returned the chargesheet, directing the SIT to rectify existing gaps before resubmitting it. Despite efforts by the agency to address these concerns promptly, the court’s subsequent review uncovered additional lapses.
Officials associated with the investigation have indicated that efforts are underway to secure the government’s permission to prosecute the accused officials.
