Man thought dead returns home alive, corrects mistaken identity in Vikarabad

Man Presumed Dead Returns

Hyderabad: A family in Basheerabad Mandal, Vikarabad district, Telangana, experienced a whirlwind of emotions when a man presumed dead returned home alive, correcting an earlier mistaken identity that led to funeral preparations.

The confusion started after an unidentified person tragically died in a train accident at Vikarabad railway station on Saturday night. Among the belongings found on the deceased, railway police discovered a cellphone. Believing it belonged to Pittala Yellappa (40), a shepherd from Nawandgi, they informed his family of his supposed death.

However, Yellappa had been away for three days, working as a laborer and staying at Tandur railway station. His phone had been stolen the previous Friday, and tragically, the thief died in an accident involving a train the following night.

Upon receiving the news, Yellappa’s wife, Vimalamma, and their family identified the headless body through belongings found, and began preparing for his funeral. The house echoed with sorrowful cries of relatives as they made arrangements to bid farewell.

As preparations were underway, an auto-rickshaw unexpectedly arrived at their home. To the astonishment of everyone present, Yellappa emerged alive and well from the vehicle. The joyous reunion revealed the mistaken identity: the deceased was actually the thief who had stolen Yellappa’s phone.

Yellappa, unaware of the confusion caused by his absence, explained his whereabouts. The family’s grief quickly turned into immense relief and happiness, prompting them to immediately stop the funeral preparations.

Vikarabad Railway Sub-Inspector Shankaraiah acknowledged the identification error, citing the dismembered state of the body which complicated the identification process and led to the confusion.

This unusual yet heartwarming incident has left the community both relieved and amazed by the unexpected twist of fate that brought joy after a brief period of sorrow.
