Hyderabad Police nabs armed chain snatchers within 48 hours

Secunderabad: In the early hours of Wednesday, the streets surrounding Secunderabad railway station became the backdrop for a dramatic confrontation between police and armed chain snatchers. After a chase by Anti-chain snatching team of Hyderabad police which escalated into opening fire on chain snatchers wounding one of the suspects. The suspects evaded capture but they were nabbed with 48 hours of commission of offense.

On credible information, Gopalapuram Police along with Task Force have nabbed two notorious robbery offenders who were involved in a recent robbery case involving cell phone snatching by using deadly weapons. The accused were identified as Masood Ur Rahman(31) and Fazal Ur Raheman alias Fazal(22).

Explaining the scene of offense, police said, “At around 2:30 a.m. two suspects, identified as Rahman and Fazal, headed towards Secunderabad in search of potential targets.They zeroed in on a pedestrain near Ganesh temple, secunderabad who was heading towards the railway station. Fazal tried to rob his mobile phone at knife point. When the victim resisted, Rahman also got off the vehicle. Both threatened him with their daggers and robbed his mobile phone and they fled towards Clock Tower and brandishing daggers to the public to terrorize them”.

Hearing the victim’s cries for help, an Anti-Snatching team of two constables began chasing the offenders. Both the suspects brandished their daggers at the Police Team, threatening to kill them if chased. Further they attempted to snatch another Pedestrian’s mobile phone near Bata showroom clocktower but abandoned the effort upon realizing they were closely chased, speeding towards City Light Hotel. The chase escalated near City Light Hotel, where police fired at the offenders’ vehicle, wounding Rahman. Despite the injury, the suspects evaded capture”. Special investigative teams identified and nabbed the accused within 48 hours.

Investigation revealed that Masood Ur Rahman, a school dropout, worked as a welder and cab driver. Unable to meet his extravagant expenses with his earnings, Rahman turned to committing robberies and thefts for quick money. Earlier he was arrested by Nacharam and Mailardevpally Police in similar cases.

In the present case, Masood Ur Rahman was visiting his aunt’s house in Musheerabad. During the night of 19/20th June 2024, he asked Fazal to join him in committing robbery. Masood Ur Rahman carried a large dagger while Fazal had a small one, intending to intimidate or harm anyone who resisted.

As per their plan while proceeding towards Chaderghat they noticed one Activa vehicle was parked near Swagath Bar, Malakpet and committed theft of the vehicle with the and sped away from the spot. Further they used the stolen vehicle for commission of offence to evade the police. The accused were handed over to Gopalapuram police of Hyderabad commissionerate for further investigation.
