Hyderabad: In one day in the city on Saturday, a staggering One Crore worth of inducements and Eighteen lakhs cash were seized by the enforcement teams in Hyderabad district according to the data released by District Election Officer and Greater Hyderabad Municipal Commissioner (GHMC), Ronald Ross. As the Model Code of Conduct(MCC) in place, the Election officials enhanced the vigilance to ensure free and fair elections.

As the polling date May 13 is nearing, the election officers stepped up the enforcement to curb electoral malpractices and ensure ‘inducement free’ elections. According to the data released by the Hyderabad District Election Officer, so far the Rs 22 crores cash and Rs 17 crores worth of inducements were seized by the Enforcement Teams in the Hyderabad district since the Model Code of Conduct(MCC) came into place after the Election notification was issued.

“In addition cash and inducements- Liquor was also seized by the election officials- in the last 24 hours, a whopping 26,654.125 liters of liquor has been seized and 282 persons were arrested in connection with the case and access were booked against all the accused,” said the EC.

596 Complaints Received, 383 Cases booked

Election officials received 596 complaints, data shows. Of these 596 complaints- in 383 cases, an FIR has been registered. Further around 40 complaints regarding the violation of model code of conduct were received and further action were taken accordingly.

While announcing the schedule for Lok Sabha election 2024, Election commission India Identified 4 M- Money, Muscle, MCC and Misinformation- as daunting challenges to conduct free and fair elections. Accordingly in Hyderabad the enforcement teams are working to minimize the effect of these challenges for the upcoming elections.

So far flying squads teams have seized around Rs 5.7 crores and Rs 3.5 crores worth of inducements. Further police/IT enforcement teams seized around Rs 15.98 crores and Rs 13.45 crores worth of inducements and SST teams seized Rs 29 lakhs and Rs 77 lakhs worth of inducements revealed data.
