Hyderabad: Central zone task force team of Hyderabad commissionerate busted a cricket betting racket and nabbed two men indulging in illegal betting on Saturday. The task force team seized around 25 lakhs from the accused. The accused were allegedly accepting betting amounts for ICC Mens’ T20 world cup, 2024 final match between India vs South Africa Match venue at Kensington Oval, Bridgetown.

The police have arrested the main bookie, Mohd Abdul Sohail and a collection agent Md Farhatullah at Maruthi nagar, under the limits of IS Sadan Police Station.

According to the police, in view of ICC Mens’ T20 world cup, 2024 final match between India vs South Africa match accepting betting amount from punters indulging in cricket betting for easy money.

With a tip off on Saturday evening Task Force Central Zone team caught them where the accused persons have installed a betting setup at Maruthi nagar, under the limits of IS Sadan and accepting betting amounts for ICC Mens’ T20 world cup, 2024 final match between India vs South Africa Match being held at Kensington Oval, Bridgetown. Task force team seized Rs 25 lakhs cash from their possession.

“Accused Mohd Abdul Sohail is residing in the limits of Srinagar colony. He has a habit of betting money on cricket matches. He learned about the online cricket betting system. Further hatched a plan to gain easy money illegally from betting, through known sources obtained betting app IDs and passwords installed in his laptop and is organizing cricket betting. He engaged Md Farhatullah as collection agent of betting amounts,” said Hyderabad police in an official statement.

Investigation revealed that the accused contacted about 20 to 25 punters who have a habit of betting money on live cricket matches and the punters are sending money by way of cash or online Google Pay , PhonePe. Sometimes collection agent Md Farhatullah directly collects betting amounts from punters.

Both the accused were arrested and handed over to IS Sadan police of Hyderabd commissionerae for further investigation.
