Hyderabad central University Students Protest, Demand University PhD Exam over UGC NET

Hcu Students Protest

Gachibowli: Hyderabad central university students protest in front of the main gate in Gachibowli, demanding a separate PhD entrance exam at Hyderabad Central University. The Students burned the National Testing Agency(NTA) effigy and demanded the elimination of the NTA.

Dalit student Union(DSU) which participated in the protest stated that the recent cancellation of the UGC NET June 2024 examination conducted on 18 June 2024, due to the reported mismanagement and irresponsibility of UGC NET and NTA officials has left many of us in a state of uncertainty and disappointment.

“As someone who dedicated significant time and effort to preparing for this examination, foregoing personal time with family and incurring additional expenses for transportation and accommodation, the sudden cancellation has been particularly disheartening” said DSU.

In light of these circumstances, comparatively HCU university standards are high if you compare with UGC NET consider conducting its own entrance examination for PhD admissions this year.Conducting a university-specific entrance exam would ensure that the admissions process remains robust, transparent, and equitable, upholding the standards of academic excellence that University of Hyderabad is known for. It would also alleviate the concerns of many students who are now facing uncertainty regarding their academic futures due to circumstances beyond their control.

Meanwhile Ambedkar student Association(ASA) released a statement lashing out at NTA. In its statteme ASA said, “NTA is being touted as the country’s premier testing agency. However, this agency, which has no expertise or proven track record, was assigned to conduct all the essential qualificatory exams by the BJP government”.

Further the statement added the only agenda of the NTA, the brainchild of RSS-BJP, is to advance Hindutva and its propaganda of homogenizing the education system of this country. We want to remind everyone that in recent times, the NET JRF cut-off has become unusually high, and it has prevented students from securing JRF. Given the latest misdoings of NTA, we believe this cut- off hike might also be due to the malpractices. Hence, while investigating the malpractices related to the current NTA-NET exams, we demand that there also be a proper investigation of the previous NET exam evaluation patterns.

Ambedkar Students’ Association condemns the National Testing Agency and demands the immediate resignation of its chairperson owing to his repeated failures and jeopardising students’ lives. We also demand that the University revoke the NTA-NET/JRF criteria from its PhD admission and reinstate entrance exams for respective academic units.
