HYDERABAD Sewerage Pit in Tolichowki: An elderly man tragically lost his life after falling into a pit dug for an underground sewerage system in Hyderabad. The supervising officer of HMWSSB, along with the supervisor and contractor of Ayyappa Infra Projects, have been booked for culpable homicide not amounting to murder in connection with the incident.

According to the First Information Report filed by Film Nagar Police, Gulam Mohammed, aged 78, met with the fatal accident around 5 PM on Sunday, March 31. While riding his two-wheeler in Surya Nagar Colony, Tolichowki, he accidentally fell into a deep unsecured sewerage pit in tolichowki dug for the HMWSSB underground sewage system. The mishap occurred as he veered left upon encountering improperly fastened barricades by Ayyappa Infra Projects at the construction site.

Following the incident, Gulam Mohammed was rushed to Apollo Hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries on the same night. His son, Amer Sayeed, lodged a formal complaint against the supervisor and contractor of Ayyappa Infra Projects, as well as the supervising officer of HMWSSB, at Film Nagar Police Station. Subsequently, cases have been registered against them under sections 304-II, read with 34 of the Indian Penal Code.

Section 304-II of the Indian Penal Code pertains to acts that result in death due to negligence, with potential consequences including imprisonment for up to ten years, a monetary fine, or both. The authorities are investigating the matter further to ascertain the circumstances leading to this unfortunate incident.
