Downed wires in Hyderabad prompt urgent resolution

Hyderabad: The presence of downed wires, servicing electricity and internet functions, poses a hazard in various locations across Hyderabad, including flyovers and local streets. Residents are concerned about the potential danger to lives, especially during the monsoon season, when there is an increased risk of electric shock. As a result, the concerned authorities, the Southern Power Distribution Company of Telangana (TGSPDCL), are urged to promptly dispatch a team to address these infrastructure issues in response to the collective request from residents.

While speaking with the Hyderabad Mail, Ahmed, a resident of Begumpet, said, “I have noticed many electric and WiFi wires hanging down to the floor, which is very dangerous for commuters and residents passing through those locations. Whenever it rains, if an electric wire gets mixed with water, it could result in an electric shock and even death.”

Ahmed said that officials from FiberNet frequently address cases of wires being dislodged for various reasons. He also suggested that TGSPDCL, the electricity department, should conduct inspections and make necessary repairs and changes.

Furthermore, a proactive citizen, Adarsh, has taken the initiative to raise a complaint via ‘X’ (presumably a social media platform) or Twitter. In his message, he asks, “@GHMCOnline, I am uncertain about the appropriate category for this request. There are cable wires suspended over the road, potentially leading to accidents. Immediate attention to this matter is crucial, and the responsible parties should be held accountable. The location is Ushodaya Enclave, Indra Reddy Allwyn Colony, Hafeezpet, Hyderabad.”

One of the ‘X’ users posted a message on a social media platform, requesting assistance addressing the dangerously hanging wires in front of his gate.

Hyderabad Traffic police cracks down on school vehicle violations

Hyderabad: In a special drive against the vehicle plying school children, Hyderabad Traffic Police has cracked a whip against vehicles carrying school children in excess of the capacity and also the vehicle condition in Hyderabad City.

On Thursday Hyderabad traffic police identified 406 Auto rickshaw drivers not wearing proper uniform , 95 auto rickshaw carrying excess school children, 57 cases where school children were sitting beside the driver, 11 auto rickshaw drivers without driving licence, and 11 auto rickshaw without documents.

Most concerning is the wrong side driving. Traffic police have found 40 auto rickshaw drivers driving on the wrong side. Wrong side driving led to one of the most causes of accidents reported in the last few years.

“We have formed special teams which will conduct a special drive in the morning from 07.30 a.m to 09.30 a.m. and in the evening from 03.00 p.m. to 05.00 p.m.” Hyderabad Traffic police in an official statement. Further they added, Special focus is kept on the Auto Rickshaws without fitness certificates, without driving licence, drunken drive, overloading (more than 6 children of 12 years and below in 3 passenger Auto Rickshaw and 8 children in 4 passenger Auto Rickshaw), minor driving, and other violations.

These special teams will also hold a meeting with school management and counsel the parents who are carrying extra children on their two-wheelers and explain to them about the security and safety of school children.

Hyderabad Traffic Police appealed to all the parents not to send their children in a vehicle carrying more than the seating capacity. “Transporting Children in an overloaded vehicle is a clear violation of Traffic rules. This endangers the lives of children,” said Hyderabd traffic police.

Further they requested the school managements and parents to check the validity of documents -Driving Licence of Driver, Registration Certificate, Insurance Certificate and Fitness Certificate- of vehicles before engaging such vehicles for sending children to the Schools. They are also requested to verify the antecedents / behavior of the driver.
