DCA raids local clinics in New Hafeezpet,  Pashamylaram village

SERLINGAMPALLY: Continuing its crackdown on clinics operated by quacks, Drugs Control Administration (DCA) officials conducted raids at New Hafeezpet and Pashamylaram village and seized illegally stocked drugs intended for sale.

Based on credible information, on 29th and April 30,DCA officials raided the premises of quacks who were claiming themselves as ‘Rural Medical Practitioners(RMP)’ and practicing medicine without proper qualifications at their clinics.

Going further into the details, DCA officials identified two quacks, Shaik Azez running HKGN First Aid Clinic in New Hafeezpet, Serilingampally and Sanjay Shesherao Pande running Gajanan First Aid Clinic, Pashamylaram Village, Patancheru Mandal. DCA officials, M. Varaprasad, Drugs Inspector, Pashamylaram, A. Shylaja Rani, Drugs Inspector, Serilingampally, N. Ravikiran Reddy, Drugs Inspector, Sangareddy and G. Srikanth, Drugs Inspector, Jinnaram and D. Swetha Bindu, Drugs Inspector, Gandipet are among the officers who carried out the raids.

More alarming – higher generation ‘antibiotics’ and ‘steroids’ found

Medicines, including antibiotics, steroids, analgesics, cough syrups, anti-ulcer drugs, antidiabetics, antihypertensives, and other medicines were found stocked at the premises. More alarming were the several higher generation ‘antibiotics’ and ‘steroids’ found at the clinics during the raids. Indiscriminate sale of antibiotics prescribed by unqualified persons may have disastrous consequences, including emergence of ‘Antimicrobial Resistance’. Likewise, Misusing steroids can have serious health consequences, including immune system suppression, hormonal imbalances, muscle and bone weakness, cardiovascular problems, and psychological effects. The indiscriminate use of steroids poses significant risks to public health, warned DCA officials.

DCA officials seized the stocks, worth a total of Rs. 40,000, during the special raids. Further officials took the samples for analysis. Further investigation is underway. DCA officials warned Wholesalers/Dealers who supply medicines to such unqualified persons/unlicensed entities. As they are stocking and selling drugs without a drug license. “Action will be taken as per the law against all the offenders under the Drugs and Cosmetics Act.

Wholesalers/Dealers shall mandatorily ensure that the recipient entities hold a valid drug license before supplying medicines to them, said DCA in an official statement.
