BAHADURPURA: Telangana Drugs Control Administration (DCA) raided RS Unani Pharmacy in Bahadurpura in Hyderabad on Monday for promoting medicines with prohibited claims for treating kidney and gallstones.

The pharmacy was found advertising a Unani medicine called Uni Stones powder, which claimed to treat kidney stones and gallstones. The team also discovered Renonip drops, a homoeopathic medicine claimed to treat kidney stones during the raids.

The Drugs and Magic Remedies (Objectionable Advertisements) Act, 1954 prohibits advertisement of certain drugs for certain diseases and disorders, prohibiting any individual from marketing any such advertisements. Advertisement of a drug for treatment of kidney stones and gall stones is also prohibited under Drugs and Magic Remedies (Objectionable Advertisements) Act, 1954.

According to DCA team, legal action would be taken against offenders involved in the production and marketing of medicines. Individuals found guilty of making prohibited advertisements for drugs for specific diseases likely to face imprisonment, a fine, or both. Further investigation is underway.
