Begumpet’s Urvashi Bar seized for illegal operations, pub violations

BEGUMPET: The District Prohibition and Excise authorities seized ‘Urvashi Bar and Restaurant’ based on the raid and investigation by the Begumpet police of Hyderabad on Friday.

Going further into the details, the illegal activities of ‘Urvashi Bar and Restaurant’ came to limelight after Begumpet police conducted a raid on the bar. The raid unveiled the illegal activities of ‘Urvashi Bar and Restaurant’. “They had engaged in illegal activities involving female employees. These activities included indecent exposure and attempts to involve them in immoral acts, all conducted with the knowledge of management” said Hyderabad police in an official statement.

Further the probe agency investigation revealed that despite being licensed as an inn and bar, the establishment was operating as a pub, featuring ‘inappropriate’ dance performances by female employees, compromising their dignity and modesty.

On April 2, Begumpet Police of Hyderabad commissionerate conducted a raid booked the management under Section 294 IPC(Obscene acts and songs in Public spaces) and Section 70(c) of the CP Act, leading to arrests.

*Seizure of licence*

Meanwhile Begumpet police shoot a letter urging them to take action against the ‘Urvashi Bar and Restaurant’ leading to the seizure of Bar. “A letter was sent to the District Prohibition and Excise Officer, Medchal Malkajgiri district, urging the cancellation of the establishment’s licence. Consequently, on April 26, 2024, the District Prohibition & Excise authority seized the bar,” said Hyderabad police.

Further necessary legal action will be taken against any further obscene activities, added police.

In recent times, there has been an increase in maintenance of bars and restaurants without having proper licences from the government authorities. As per the reports, women from other states are being roped to work in these ‘illegal’ bars and restaurants and spa centres. With this, police are taking strict action and are conducting raids frequently and warning such establishments of cancelling licence, if caught.
