Balkampet residents demand urgent road repairs amid safety concerns

Balkampet Road Repair Demand

Hyderabad: Residents of Balkampet continue to face significant inconvenience and safety hazards due to unrepaired roads, which have been left neglected despite repeated appeals to the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC).

The stretch of Balkampet road from Fateh Nagar Flyover to Yellamma Temple, dug up previously for pipeline installation, remains in a deteriorated state, posing difficulties particularly for drivers attempting left turns and causing occasional skidding incidents involving motorcycles.

Speaking to Hyderabad Mail, MA Ahmed, a concerned resident, emphasized the severity of the situation: “The entire Balkampet road has been dug up and left unattended for nearly half a kilometer. This is a major thoroughfare frequented by visitors due to the prominence of Yellamma Temple. The road’s current state not only makes it inconvenient for commuters but also puts their safety at risk.”

Despite Ahmed’s persistent efforts, including multiple social media posts and tweets directed at GHMC officials, the necessary repairs have yet to materialize. Ahmed recounted his frustrations: “I have consistently raised concerns on platforms like ‘X’, tagging GHMC authorities and requesting immediate action. However, while assurances are made online, the promised patchwork remains pending.”

Ahmed’s posts on social media highlight the community’s growing impatience with the authorities’ inaction. On June 18th, he posted: “Road damaged at Balkampet near Light Sun hotel @CommissionrGHMC @GHMCOnline.” Similarly, on June 24th, he reiterated: “The entire Balkampet road from Fateh Nagar flyover to YELLAMMA temple was dug up but left unattended + needs patchwork @GHMCOnline.” Additionally, on April 13th, he highlighted the need for urgent repairs to the Fateh Nagar flyover footpath and the removal of stone debris from Balkampet road, calling for immediate action.

GHMC, in response to Ahmed’s complaints, has assured inspections and remedial actions, but these commitments have not translated into tangible improvements on the ground. Residents are waiting for GHMC to fix the dangerous Balkampet road and make it safe for everyone.
