UPPAL: The Assistant Food Controller of the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) conducted an inspection at Pista House Uppal on Monday following allegations by a resident of Hyderabad. The inspection revealed certain defects in the premises.

A resident named Karvedhan from Uppal reported purchasing a Banana cake from Pista House’s Uppal branch on April 5, 2024. To his dismay, he discovered fungus on the Banana cake despite its expiry date being April 10, 2024.

Karvedhan took to social media and posted, “Beware All! Bought a Banana cake from Pista House Uppal yesterday evening (5th). Discovered the scenario below this morning. How could this be acceptable? Expiry Date is till April 10, 2024. Food safety has become a joke in Hyderabad, even from well-known outlets.”

Subsequently, the concerned Food Safety Officers inspected the premises of Pista House Bakery. A notice was issued to the establishment regarding certain defects, and further samples of bread products were collected for analysis, including Pista House Plum Cake, Pista House Sponge Cake and Pista House Milk Bread.

Additionally, the Banana Cake sample received from the complainant, along with the above samples, was forwarded to the State Food Laboratory, Telangana, Hyderabad for analysis. Based on the analysis report, further action will be initiated against the management of Pista House Uppal, Hyderabad, under the Provisions of the Food Safety & Standards Act, 2006, and Rules & Regulations, 2011.
