Both the Telugu girls were arrested after Hoboken ShopRite alerted the cops that the girls did not pay for certain items they have purchased. Both girls are graduate students at Stevens Institute of Technology.

According to reports, the girls only paid to 2 out of 29 items they took. In a video taken by the police during arrest, one of the girls said that they would pay double for what they hadn’t paid before. While the other pleaded they wouldn’t repeat this. And asked police to be let off.

They went on arguing with the cops and asked to leave them for this one time. When the cops asked why they didn’t pay the bill, one of the girl replied that they have limited balance her account. While other replied that they simply forgotten to pay the bill. However, the police explained the legal procedures of producing them in the court and arrested them.

Bodycam footage released by the Hoboken Police shows the girl asking : “Will this affect us for the H-1B process.” The officer replied: “Yes, if they run your information, it’s going to show that you were arrested.”
