Two fruit vendors nabbed for selling artificially-ripened mangoes in Hyderabad

HYDERABAD: Hyderabad police on Saturday nabbed two fruits vendors for violating FSSAI guidelines and selling artificially ripened mangoes in Mozamjahi market.

Police arrested two fruit vendors , Irfan Khan and Mohd Hussain, for using artificial ripening methods to ripen mangoes worth Rs. 3 Lakhs from their shops.

The duo used artificial ripeners like Ethylene to bring unripe fruits, particularly mangoes, into the market due to high demand during Ramzan and the marriage season.

These fruit vendors were caught violating the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) norms by employing unauthorised ways of storing and ripening mangoes, which are toxic to humans and can have major consequences for public health, such as respiratory and skin problems.

The accused individuals were allegedly using harmful chemicals illegally for personal gain, cheating the public, and violating FSSAI guidelines.

Police seized 18 mangoes, FYK Sachets, FYK Ethylene Ripener, and eight trays from Lucky Fruit Shop, worth Rs. 3,00,000 lakh.

A case has been registered against the accused persons under Cr.no63/2024 u/s 420, 272, 273, 336 IPC of Sultan Bazar police station.
