Hyderabad: Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TSRTC) orders its employees only to wear formals to their respective duties, it also stressed not to wear especially casuals like Jeans and T-shirts. While the order by the corporation was given on May 2, 2024 by the executive director, it came to light recently, after there was a discussion about this on the social media platforms.

The order also stated that the TSRTC MD VC Sajjanar, IPS is also serious over employees being casual. In its official notice dated May 2, 2024, the order said that “It is to inform that the VC & MD has taken a very serious note of some of the officers/employees attending their duties in casual wear. Attending work place in a casuals like jeans and T-shirts et., is not in tune with office decorum and dignity.”

The order further read, “Therefore, all the officers are advised to attend their duties only in formal dressing duly ensuring that all the employees under their control follow the same dress code without any deviation.”

One of the TSRTC employees, on the condition of anonymity said that they were recently given three sets of uniforms for the conductors and the drivers and following which this order came in. “Usually the front end employees like conductors and drivers always have their uniform, however it is some of the other role employees who work inside the depots and offices who sometimes come in Jeans and Tshirts, hence the order seems to be in place.”

The employee further added that even in the depots and respective offices also, employees are being told about the wearing formals only to the office; in addition to that, the circular was delivered to all the employees through their internal WhatsApp groups as well, so that it reaches all the employees.

Netizens call it outdated mindset

Meanwhile, the order has received a mixed response from the internet, while some of them called the order an ‘outdated mindset’. One of the netizens said, “Let them wear whatever as long as they are performing their duties efficiently. Dressing has no impact on performance. This is an outdated mindset.” And another user said one has to follow etiquette, “In the service sector, you have to abide by etiquette and follow dress code. Even the department stores, restaurants, and hospitals impose dress codes for their employees. Why not PSUs, Jeans and T-shirts are prohibited even in the banking sector. Full Collar shirts with full hands. Be proud of it.”
