Tragedy Strikes Telugu Students at Scottish Falls

Hyderabad: In a tragic incident, two Indian students from Dundee University, including one from Hyderabad, drowned at the Linn of Tummel, a tourist spot in Scotland. The unfortunate event occurred on Wednesday evening when the students were trekking together. The victims, Jitendranath Karuturi, 26, and Chanhakya Bolisetti, 22, were pursuing their Masters in data science and engineering.

Police say No suspicion

The emergency services recovered the bodies of the two men from the water at the Linn of Tummel, north of Pitlochry, after a search operation. According to the police, there are no suspicious circumstances surrounding their deaths. The Indian High Commission in London confirmed the deaths, stating that the Consulate General of India is in contact with the families and is assisting with the process of repatriating the bodies to India. A post-mortem is scheduled for 19 April.

Both students had started their course in January 2023 and were set to complete it in May. Jitendranath, also known as ‘Titu’, had previously studied at the University of Hartford, Connecticut, and had been working at the Taza Indian buffet restaurant in Dundee for the past year. Vaseem Salimi, the manager of the City Quay restaurant, expressed that everyone is devastated by the loss, highlighting Jitendranath’s popularity among his peers.
The fire service dispatched two boat rescue units to the scene, but despite their efforts, the students could not be saved. The University of Dundee has offered its full support during this difficult time. The incident has sent shockwaves through the student community, with tributes pouring in for the two young men whose lives were cut short in this tragic accident.
