Residents push for round-the-year traffic police deployment in Balkampet

Hyderabad: Hyderabad is gearing up for the much-awaited Balkampet Yellamma Kalyanotsavam, scheduled for the second week of July. Thousands of devotees are expected to converge at the temple to participate in the Balkampet Yellamma Kalyanam ceremony on July 8, 9, and 10. Residents of Begumpet have raised concerns regarding potential traffic congestion around the temple area, fearing worsening conditions due to inadequate traffic management. Urgent appeals have been made to the Hyderabad Traffic Police and the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) to address these concerns promptly.

Speaking to Hyderabad Mail, MA Ahmed, a resident of Begumpet, expressed, “The absence of traffic officials leads to widespread illegal parking, causing traffic jams and congestion.”

Ahmed has pointed out that the link road connecting Balkampet to HPS Begumpet faces significant traffic issues day and night, primarily due to the absence of traffic police personnel, particularly at the crucial T-junction in Balkampet.

Ahmed highlighted three specific issues on the link road from HPS Begumpet to Balkampet: two half-broken speed breakers and one leaning street light. These issues, if not immediately resolved, could potentially lead to accidents and require urgent attention.

Residents have demanded the continuous deployment of a traffic official at the T-junction to ensure smooth traffic flow throughout the year. Additionally, they have raised concerns about illegal parking by heavy vehicles such as DCM lorries and cars along the main road.

Key demands from residents include the deployment of a traffic official and stringent enforcement of no-parking regulations around the temple area and on the main roads, especially during the upcoming festival season.

MA Ahmed took to ‘X’ or Twitter and posted his concerns, tagging relevant officials, stating, “Three issues (two half-broken speed breakers & one leaning street light) on the link road from HPS Begumpet to Balkampet. @HYDTP.”
