Thumma Bala Archbishop Emeritus Of Hyderabad & Bishop Emeritus Of Warangal Dies At 80

HYDERABAD: Thumma Bala, an Archbishop Emeritus of Hyderabad and Bishop Emeritus of Warangal, breathed his last at 80 on May 30 at 10.25 a.m.

Thumma Bala, born on April 24, 1944, in Narimetta, was ordained as a priest of Warangal on December 21, 1970. He was later appointed as the Bishop of Warangal on November 17, 1986.

Subsequently, he was elevated and appointed as Ordained Bishop on March 12, 1987. Thumma Bala’s service extended further when he was appointed as the Archbishop of Hyderabad on March 12, 2011. He was officially installed as Archbishop of Hyderabad on May 5, 2011. His tenure concluded with his retirement at the age of 76 as Archbishop of Hyderabad on November 19, 2020.

Thumma Bala was known for his compassionate nature and for being a hardworking man when it came to his duties.

Cardinal Poola Anthony extends sincere condolences to his family, priests, religious, and faithful, urging everyone to pray for the repose of his soul. “May his soul rest in peace,” expressed Fr. Victor Emmanuel T. Procurator and Chancellor Archdiocese of Hyderabad.

Udumala Bala, the Bishop of Warangal, expressed deep sorrow over the passing of Thumma Bala, said, “It is shocking and unexpected news to all of us. The Diocese of Warangal extends its deepest grief and condolences to all the priests, the consecrated, and the faithful of both dioceses.”

Details regarding his funeral mass and burial service are yet to be announced.
