Telangana RTA cracks down on unsafe school buses in Hyderabad

Hyderabad: As the school going children return to their respective schools, the Telangana State Road Transport officials have swung into action and seized school buses that are unfit to carry the students. Schools have reopened in the state of Telangana on June 12, 2024.

In their latest crackdown, after thorough inspection, the RTA officials have seized a total of 86 school buses that were running without valid documentation and unfit buses that were ready to ply the students of various private schools. The seizure of 86 buses is under the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) limits, of which 25 buses were in Hyderabad district, 46 were in Ranga Reddy and the other 15 buses were from the Medchal district on Wednesday.

According to the reports, some of the violations that were found by the officials in their inspections include, lack of necessary licenses to use the buses, lack of fitness certificates and non-payment of taxes to the Road Transport Authority (RTA).

Meanwhile, there are also strict rules and regulations for the school buses carrying students as the lives of children are at stake. All the buses should have a valid fitness certificate and the driver must be fit and should not be above 60 years old and should not consume alcohol.

Previous School bus accidents

Early this year in January, 2024 a private school bus ran into a truck and injured more than 20 students plying in the bus. The incident occured in Komaram Bheem Asifabad district of Telangana. The bus was also said to be traveling in the wrong direction, which led to the collision.

Last year in 2023, a School bus in Telangana, which was carrying 30 students overturned causing injuries to the students in Mahabubabad district. It was said that the accident occured as the bus lost control while the driver was speeding.
