MANIKONDA: In a horrific incident, a little girl was attacked and bitten by a street dog on Friday at Khizra Enclave in the Manikonda area of Hyderabad. According to reports, the girl narrowly escaped after an old man came to her rescue.

The incident occurred while she was playing freely in Khizra Enclave and was viciously attacked by a street dog. She was immediately rushed to the hospital and received a total of six injections from the doctors.

Residents alleged that this is the second street dog attack reported in the last 10 days. Outraged Manikonda residents question the safety of children in the area.

They demanded strict action against the street dog menace in Manikonda and questioned the inaction of the Manikonda municipality. Residents state they can’t wait for another street dog attack and vow to hold local bodies accountable.

Residents also questioned what measures the Manikonda municipality is taking to control the stray dog population, if regular sterilisation drives are in place, or if measures are being taken to ensure proper garbage disposal to avoid attracting stray dogs.

Manikonda residents also demanded to implement the Animal Birth Control (ABC) programme to control the stray dog population. Sterilisation, spaying and neutering reduces the number of unwanted animals and curbs aggressive behaviour often associated with mating instincts.

The residents believe that implementation of Animal Birth Control (ABC) programs offer effective approach to managing stray populations while promoting community safety and animal welfare. By preventing reproduction, these programs contribute to a decrease in the number of strays, which can help reduce incidents of dog bites and attacks.
