telangana unofficial anthem

As the state of Telangana set to celebrate ten years of the state formation, unofficial anthems representing the culture of Telangana are circulating on the internet, showcasing the spirit of the people. The celebrations are set to happen on Sunday, June 2, 2024 across the Telangana state and special celebrations are also planned in Hyderabad’s Tank Bund and Parade Grounds in Secunderabad.

At this juncture, bringing the festive mood, some private anthems representing the local culture are gaining significance.

One of the anthems winning the hearts is the song penned by lyricist, singer and MLC Goreti Venkanna’s song. The song is sung by playback singers Mano and Kalpana, renowned Tollywood singers and is produced by Greentime Productions. The song recalls the greatness of the state, from the presence of various historical and cultural places like Yadadri, Vemulawada, Dharmapuri, Basara, Jogulamba Peetam to Ramappa temple. The lyrics also makes note of the festivals celebrated in the region including Bathukamma, Bonalu among others, while recalling the greatness of several other people who contributed to the state’s rich culture.

Another anthem, Swatantrama Swatantrama, is winning the hearts of the people too. The song beautifully captures the emotions and excitement of the newly formed state and the freedom it acquired after the formation of the state. This song is written by Telangana folk singer and poet Mittapalli Surender, marking the celebration of ten years since the birth of the Telangana state. It is pertinent to note that Surender’s songs were quite popular during the Telangana statehood movement. Mittapalli Surender also received Nandi award in 2011 for his song Rathi Bommalona Koluvaina Shivudaa song in Poru Telangana movie released in the same year.

State approved anthem all set to release on June 2

Meanwhile, it is already known that the Government of Telangana announced earlier that it had approved ‘’Jaya Jaya hey Telangana’ as the state anthem and this anthem would be revealed on June 2 during the celebrations. It was also informed by the officials that there are two versions of this anthem approved, while one version is 2:30 minutes long, the other version is 13:30 minutes long. This anthem is composed by the Oscar winning music composer, M M Keeravani, while it is written by Telangana’s very own poet and writer, Andesri. It should also be noted that the inclusion of MM Keeravani, an Andhra Person in the composition of Telangana song has also attracted criticism from opposition.
