Secunderabad Railway Station set for major upgrades by 2025: Kishan Reddy

SECUNDERABAD: Secunderabad Railway Station is set for significant upgrades by 2025, including multi-modal integration with East & West Metro and the Bus station, segregation of arrival/departure passengers, and the installation of 26 lifts, two travelators, and 32 escalators, said announcement Union Minister Kishan Reddy on Wednesday.

G. Kishan Reddy, Minister of Culture, Tourism, and Development of North Eastern Region, visited Secunderabad Railway Station on Wednesday to review the station’s major upgrade plans. He was accompanied by Arun Kumar Jain, General Manager of SCR, and other senior railway officials.

G. Kishan Reddy reviewed the ongoing upgradation works at Secunderabad Railway Station and personally inspected the construction sites on both sides of the station building to gauge the progress of the developmental works.

Addressing the media at the station, he highlighted that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had initiated the major upgrade project for Secunderabad station on April 8, 2023. Remarkably, within a short span of time, approximately 20-25 percent of the works have already been completed. The comprehensive project is slated for completion by the end of 2025.

The redevelopment of the station comes with a substantial investment of approximately Rs. 700 crore. Emphasising the vision for the project, G. Kishan Reddy said that the redeveloped station will boast modern architecture and world-class passenger amenities. He expressed confidence that the transformation of Secunderabad Railway Station will elevate it to the standards of airports, marking a significant upgrade in its facilities and services.

Kishanreddy personally inspected the construction sites on both sides of the station building to gauge the progress of the developmental works.

G. Kishan Reddy further detailed that the redeveloped Secunderabad Railway Station will feature 26 lifts, 32 escalators, and 2 travelators, significantly enhancing accessibility for passengers. Additionally, to facilitate seamless travel, multi-modal connectivity will be established with both east and west metro stations, as well as the bus station.

He highlighted the station’s future amenities, which will include a spacious roof plaza, cafeterias, recreational facilities, and retail shops promoting local products as part of the “vocal for local” initiative. Reddy commended the South Central Railway team for their dedication and efficiency in expediting the project, ensuring its timely completion as per the targeted date.

G. Kishan Reddy highlighted the rapid progress of various railway developmental projects across Telangana state. Specifically, he mentioned that the Cherlapalli Railway terminal works are nearing completion at an accelerated pace.

Additionally, as part of the station redevelopment project, stations including Nampally, Kacheguda, Lingampalli, and Begumpet are undergoing upgrades in the twin city region, he added.
