Secunderabad railway police foil massive ganja operations with strict enforcement

Secunderabad: Thanks to the enforcement of the Secunderabad railway police. As their alertness and promptness resulted in busting the major interstate ganja smuggling racket operating from Andhra Odisha border(AOB). The police have busted around Nine ganja cases in the last month alone.

With the menace of drugs in the state, Secunderabad railway police have intensified their crackdown against the drug rackets using railways. In the last two months alone Secunderabad railway police have thwarted over a dozen drug rackets and averted smuggling of hundreds of kgs of ganja into various cities through Secunderabad Railway Station. Recently, police have destroyed 1,575 Kgs of Ganja seized in 52 cases in Secunderabad urban, Secunderabad rural and Kazipet division.

On 29 June 2024, police arrested Abubakar Kasam Shaikh, a drug peddler who was smuggling dry ganja from Visakhapatnam in Andhra Pradesh to Mumbai in Maharashtra State via Secunderabad. The police arrested Abubakar Kasam Shaikh and seized 18 Kgs of dry ganja worth Rs.90,000 from his possession. On 1 July , 2024, Secunderabad railway police arrested Md.Farid who was smuggling dry ganja from Balugaon in Odisha to Mumbai via Secunderabad. Farid intended to hand over the ganja to an individual named Panda in Mumbai, where it would be sold at a higher price. The police have arrested Md.Farid and seized 20 kgs of Dry Ganja from his possession.

Speaking to Hyderabad mail over the enhancement of vigilance at Secunderabad railway station, B Saieshwar Goud, Inspector of Police, RPS, Secunderabad said, “With the spike in drug smuggling, Secunderabad Railway Police in coordination with Railway protection force(RPF) have organized surprise checking against the drugs peddlers on platforms and trains at Secunderabad Railway Station. Most of the drug peddlers are driven by desire to maintain an extravagant lifestyle beyond their legitimate means of earning, venturing into the illegal business of smuggling contraband”.

He further added that “For a trip the drug peddlers are earning money ranging from 5,000-20,000. For instance a drug peddler who smuggling ganja from AOB area to New Delhi might get around 20,000”.

Additional Director General (ADG) Railway and Road safety Mahesh M Bhagwat appreciated the officers and men of GRP Secunderabad and they will be rewarded suitably.
