Scientific Colony residents raise concerns over neglected garbage collection point

Scientific Colony Garbage Issues

Hyderabad: The residents of the Scientific Colony in Balkampet are encountering problems due to the poor maintenance of the garbage collection point by the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC). The collection point is situated in front of the Government School near Nature Cure Hospital, and this negligence has led to health hazards, especially affecting the children in the area.

Speaking to the Hyderabad Mail, resident Krishna Chaitanya mentioned, β€œThe GHMC has maintained a garbage collection point near Scientific Colony Balkampet for many years, where local shopkeepers, street vendors, and the public dispose of their trash. Unfortunately, the GHMC authorities are not coming regularly to clean the garbage, leading to excessive garbage accumulation and posing health hazards for the people.”

Krishna Chaitanya stated that the GHMC Commissioner claims Hyderabad is a β€˜bin-free’ city, yet trash can be found everywhere on roads, in the surroundings, and at collection points. Krishna mentioned that the GHMC is not maintaining the garbage collection points properly.

He mentioned that in the past, there were dustbins, and the areas used to be clean. However, now, without any dustbins, trash is being thrown everywhere. Some people are not afraid of throwing garbage in places where the GHMC has put up signs prohibiting dumping, despite the fact that it’s punishable, said Krishna.

Small dustbins have been placed even in prominent locations such as Maitrivanam, but GHMC is unable to empty them when they are full, added Krishna.

Krishna Chaitanya, the resident, questioned how the city could be clean without providing dustbins, proper cleaning, and punishing the culprits for throwing garbage.

Krishna Chaitanya took to β€˜X’ or Twitter and posted, β€œ@GHMCOnline, how are you going to handle this situation where some shopkeepers are throwing garbage in front of their shops during night time when it’s closing time and open shops at 11 AM when the #GHMC van is unavailable at that time? This is creating a lot of mess on roads and at collection points.”
