Hyderabad: BRS Patancheru MLA Gudem Mahipal Reddy statement recorded by the Enforcement Directorate on Tuesday. The premier investigation agency which is probing the illegal mining scam and allegedly amassed around Rs. 300 Crore by sale of illegally excavated material. The ED is looking into money laundering allegations of the scam.

After the completion of the statement recording Gudem Mahipal reddy said, “They have recorded my statement” and left the ED office.

Earlier, the Enforcement Directorate (ED), conducted raids at ten locations in and around Hyderabad in a money laundering case being investigated against M/s Santhosh Sand and Granite Supply, Patancheru under the provisions of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), 2002. Searches were conducted at the premises of the proprietor of the firm Gudem Madhusudan Reddy, BRS MLA Gudem Mahipal Reddy and others.

Search operations led to the seizure of unaccounted cash of Rs.19 Lakh along with a large number of property documents in the names of unrelated persons who are suspected to be benamis of accused persons. Mobile phones containing evidence related to cash dealings were also seized. Bank locker keys were also recovered and examination of the bank lockers is expected to reveal further incriminating evidence. The Enforcement Directorate officially reportedly questioned Mahipal Reddy about the property documents and trial of proceeds of crime in the form of cash.

Investigation revealed that the accused firm was found to have excavated and transported excess quantity of 11,98,743 CBM of building stone and road metal within the quarry lease permitted area and 10,11,672 CBM of material beyond the permitted area (on encroached Government land admeasuring 4.37 Ha). In the process, the accused illegally amassed around Rs. 300 Crore by sale of illegally excavated material and also evaded royalty amount of Rs. 39.08 Crore due to the Government.

Further probe revealed that sale proceeds of illegally excavated material were deliberately not reported in banking transactions and books of accounts and that the transactions were suspected to have been carried out in cash. ED investigation revealed that proceeds of crime in the form of cash were laundered by the accused and were invested in real estate and other activities, said ED in an official statement. Further investigation is under progress.

Hyderabad: Residents of MD Lines, Hyderabad, are facing inconvenience due to unlit streets and poor road conditions. The stretch connecting Langar House and Tolichowki, which has an old city vibe, suffers from a lack of proper streetlight connections. This has plunged the area into darkness for the past two weeks, causing problems for residents and commuters. The situation is further compounded by the deplorable state of the road itself.

While speaking to the Hyderabad Mail, a resident and admin of TG Citizen who wished to remain anonymous said, “There are streetlights installed, but they are not connected properly. This has caused immense suffering for commuters like myself. There are no streetlights, and the road is also in terrible condition, with garbage dumped along its entire length.”

The resident expressed frustration with the authorities’ apparent inaction. “It seems the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) and its commissioner, along with the zonal commissioner, are preoccupied with other priorities,” he stated. Everyone is aware of the issues, yet there seems to be no desire to address them. I have already reported this problem on Twitter.”

The resident highlighted the situation by taking to the social media platform previously known as Twitter (now known as ‘X’). Their tweet read: “#MDlines road connecting #langarhouse & #Tolichowki. Residents are now urging the electricity department (TSSPDCL), the GHMC, and the Road Department to immediately fix the streetlights, repair the road, and clear the garbage, as it will improve the area’s safety and overall living conditions.

Hyderabad: Residents of Vinayak Nagar in Shaikpet are grappling with a chronic sewage overflow issue that has persisted since 2016, causing immense frustration. They are urging the Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWSSB) to expedite repairs to address the problem before it exacerbates the spread of seasonal diseases.

Speaking to the Hyderabad Mail, Ajay Kumar Maryala, a resident and social activist, said the root of the problem lies in aging infrastructure. “The sewage pipelines were laid nearly 10 to 15 years ago,” he explained, emphasizing the urgent need for upgrades.

Ajay Kumar further highlighted the neglect faced by Vinayak Nagar compared to other areas of Shaikpet, where development works like sewage and road repairs are underway. “Budgetary funds have been allocated for those areas, but our locality seems completely ignored. Neither have any development works been undertaken here, nor have any funds been released. Every other area except Vinayak Nagar is being developed, leading us to suspect bias from the authorities,” he alleged.

The overflowing sewage poses a significant health hazard, especially during the upcoming Bonalu festival, which is celebrated in Shaikpet every two years. “Women are forced to navigate through sewage overflowing on the roads, creating an utterly deplorable situation,” said the Social Activist.

Despite repeated complaints to the HMWSSB, from the manager level to the DGM and even the Managing Director, no action has been taken. “We have been informed about a Rs. 42 lakh sanction for repair works in Shaikpet for many years, but the funds haven’t materialized. No official has taken concrete steps despite our escalation to various authorities,” said Ajay.

He blames the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) authorities’ apathy and the corporator and MLA’s lack of attention for the multitude of problems in Shaikpet, which encompasses 14 colonies.

Vinayak Nagar Welfare Association residents have also approached the MLA but have not received any response. They are appealing to the Zonal Commissioner to visit Vinayak Nagar and assess the severity of the situation firsthand. “We urge the HMWSSB and GHMC authorities to immediately release funds and initiate work in our colony to address this major inconvenience residents face,” they pleaded.
