Rachakonda police bolsters women's safety with innovative surveillance register

RACHAKONDA: In a significant move towards ensuring women’s safety, G. Sudheer Babu, Commissioner of Police, Rachakonda, inaugurated the ‘Women Safety Surveillance Register’ on Tuesday. The initiative aims to actively support and monitor victims, preventing further inconvenience, trouble, or offenses by the accused.

The primary objective of the register is to facilitate prompt action against the accused or respondent, ensuring the safety of victims and preventing any recurrence of sexual harassment or related crimes. The monitoring period for each case is set at a minimum of six months, emphasizing a sustained effort to track offenders causing sexual harassment.

The Station House Officers (SHOs) and Sector Sub-Inspectors (SIs) bear the responsibility of maintaining the register confidentially. The proactive approach includes personal calls by officers to victims or their families, verifying if they are experiencing further harassment, threats, inducement, intimidation, or other forms of crime.

The register serves as a crucial tool for enhancing women’s protection by checking the activities of known sexual offenders. It also aims to verify if individuals listed in the register are committing similar offenses against other women and monitor the behavior of convicted sexual offenders or habitual offenders.

The Women Safety Surveillance Register is a significant step forward in the proactive approach of the Rachakonda Police Commissionerate to ensure the safety and well-being of women in the region.

The launch event witnessed the presence of senior officers, including T. Usha Vishwanath, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) for Women Safety, G. Venkatesham, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) for Women Safety, and Saidulu Insp from CCRB, Rachakonda. The register has been circulated to all Station House Officers of Police Stations within the Commissionerate.
