Former SIB DSP Dugyala Praneet Rao, charged by punjagutta police

PUNJAGUTTA: Former Special Intelligence Bureau (SIB) Deputy Superintendent of Police Dugyala Praneeth Rao has been charged by Punjagutta police on phone tapping case  and with several offenses. Including criminal breach of trust, criminal conspiracy, mischief, destroying evidence, and damaging public property on Sunday

Dugyala Praneet Rao, who worked at the Telangana Deputy General of Police (DGP) office in Hyderabad, was suspended on March 4, 2024. The Special Intelligence Branch (SIB) filed a complaint against former SIB DSP Dugyala Praneeth Rao at Panjagutta police station.

According to the First Information Report (FIR) issued by Punjagutta police, Dugyala Praneeth Rao, during his tenure as SIB Deputy Superintendent of Police, maintained two exclusive rooms for himself.

Reportedly, he operated with 17 computer systems exclusively assigned to him, along with access to a dedicated leased internet line. These resources were allegedly used for unauthorised profiling and monitoring activities.

SIB investigations revealed that Praneet Kumar regularly copied intelligence information into his personal drives, such as pen drives and external disks, which were under his custody, by misusing and abusing his official position.

Following the election results on December 4, 2023, Praneet Rao allegedly turned off the cameras and destroyed old hard drives containing decades-worth of gathered data, including information obtained clandestinely. In an attempt to avoid suspicion, he replaced the destroyed hard drives with new ones.
