Ou Summer vacation Notice

Though declaring holidays in the month of May during summer season is a part of academic schedule, the notice garnered significance as it came a day after students protested for the lack of water facilities on the campus hostels. It was only on Saturday night, hundreds of students of Osmania University protested with their empty buckets and water bottles as there is severe shortage of water on the campus.

Meanwhile, former chief minister of Telangana, KCR has also responded to the water crisis in Osmania University on his X handle. He said, “Telangana CM and Dy CM were misleading the people on power, irrigation and drinking water supply in the state for the past 4 months. Notice of Osmania University Chief Warden confirms that all their claims were farce. The truth is that there is power, drinking water and irrigation water crisis in Telangana.”

No students allowed to stay back

Usually on humanitarian grounds, students are left to stay in hostels in the summer season as well. A PhD student, Vinay said, “Though there is no official provision, on humanitarian grounds some students are allowed to stay back in the hostels in summer. Students include, those who are preparing for competitive exams, those who can’t go home and those who belong to other states, they usually stay back in hostels. And usually they are provided with electricity and water facilities. But now, this year, even such students are also being asked to vacate, as the administration said that there is a shortage of essential services.”

Meanwhile, another PG student Keerthy said that they are also giving written representation to keep the hostels open for those students who are planning to stay back.
