New Hyderabad rail line cuts commute time by 30 minutes

New 4km Rail Line Between Between Lallaguda And Sitaphalmandi

HYDERABAD/SECUNDERABAD: South Central Railway (SCR) has begun constructing two critical railway lines, including one for making the movement of the trains—both MMTS and long-distance ones—more efficient within the capital region. It involves the development of a new four- kilometre chord line between Lallaguda and Sitaphalmandi, facilitating faster movement of long-distance trains from Kazipet to Kacheguda.

The second project focuses on doubling and electrification of the existing single line between Sitaphalmandi and Moula Ali stations passing through Malkajgiri station for about 10 km under the remaining section of MMTS Phase II project. Once completed, these railway lines will integrate Secunderabad station with the Kazipet main line, the Nizamabad main line, and the Kacheguda station on the Bengaluru main line.

These developments will effectively link three of the five main lines emerging from or connecting to Secunderabad junction. In other words this means trains arriving through the Kazipet-Cherlapalli-Moula Ali section can now take a direct route from Lallaguda station towards Sitaphalmandi station and onwards to Kacheguda station, eliminating the need to follow circular route via Malkajgiri-Sitaphalmandi section

The completion of the new line will be a “game changer” as it will save at least 30 minutes of journey time, stated Chief Public Relations Officer Ch. Rakesh. However, the doubling and electrification works between Sitaphalmandi and Moula Ali is a “technically challenging” task since it has to be done amid bustling traffic and requires the extension of the RuB at Alugadda Bhavi, he added.

“Work has already started, and we have sought the cooperation of the police and the GHMC for diversion of traffic. The doubling work is expected to be completed in around 90 days as two vents of the RuB have to be closed for the duration of 45 days each one after the other,” Mr. Rakesh told The Hindu.
