Seven-year-old adopts seven species at Hyderabad zoo on his seventh birthday

HYDERABAD: On his seventh birthday, 7-year-old animal lover Yuvaan S Hiremath adopted seven species of animals: African Lioness (Adishna), Great Indian One-Horned Rhinoceros (Nanda), Crocodile, Owl, Ostrich, Wolf, and Lion-tailed Macaque for one month at Nehru Zoological Park in Hyderabad on Tuesday.

Inspired by his parents, Yuvaan S. Hiremath made a generous gesture by adopting these animals at the Zoo. His birthday celebration sets a benchmark for the welfare of wild animals in the Zoo. In this connection, he presented a cheque for Rs. 75,000 to the Director (FAC) and Curator of Nehru Zoological Park, Hyderabad, towards the adoption and welfare of these seven species.

Speaking on the occasion with the Zoo officials, Yuvaan S. Hiremath expressed that he was motivated by his parents, both of whom are wildlife enthusiasts and animal lovers. He emphasised that wildlife conservation is the responsibility of every citizen, and children should take the initiative towards wildlife conservation and encourage parents to allocate funds for animal welfare.

Yuvaan expressed gratitude towards the management of Nehru Zoological Park, Hyderabad, for offering an excellent opportunity for animal adoption. He adopted these animals based on his preference and felt proud to become the adopter of seven animals on his 7th birthday.

The Director (FAC) and Curator of Nehru Zoological Park, Hyderabad, congratulated and thanked Yuvaan S. Hiremath for adopting seven species of animals on his seventh birthday.

As many as 132 animals were adopted by 48 individuals at Nehru Zoological Park in Hyderabad during the 2021–2022 period. This included 78 mammals, 78 birds, four reptiles, and two other species. Adoption or gifting of adoptions to friends and family members on special occasions, such as birthdays or anniversaries, is possible. Contributions from adoption programmes help the zoo administration take good care of the animals and protect endangered species.

The animal adoption scheme is attracting a greater number of citizens, where individuals can adopt any animal in the zoo for a period ranging from a single day to a maximum of one year, either by check or through the website nzptgfd.telangana.gov.in by making an online payment.

An instant Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) copy will be issued after the online payment. Nehru Zoological Park, Hyderabad, is registered under 80 G and undertakes CSR activities (Registration number: CSR00074097).

Individuals, companies, or corporations can claim income tax exemption under Section 80G (2) and (5) of the Income Tax Act, 1961, or donate funds under CSR. Interested parties can contact the officials of Nehru Zoological Park on any working day.
