Nampally residents call for swift completion of crucial road repairs
Hyderabad: Residents of Nampally are expressing growing frustration over the pathetic condition of roads in the area, particularly the Nampally Market Road and Nilofer Hospital Road. For months, these crucial routes have remained dug up, significantly impacting daily commutes due to uneven surfaces.
The roadworks commenced in April, but residents have seen little progress in laying new pavement. This has caused immense inconvenience not only for shopkeepers in the busy Nampally market but also for commuters who rely on these roads for accessing other areas.
The slow pace of construction has exacerbated the situation, with residents yearning for a swift completion. The issue is further compounded by citizens littering plastic waste on the already uneven roads, creating an unsanitary environment.
While speaking to Hyderabad Mail, MA Ahmed, a resident, highlighted the problems faced by the community. “The construction of the Nampally Market Road has been progressing at a snail’s pace,” he said. “Ever since the road was dug up in April, the department responsible has failed to lay new road. This is a key connecting road to the main Nampally Market and other areas. The closure has severely impacted shopkeepers and commuters alike, who are eagerly waiting for its completion.”
Urging the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) and the Road department to take immediate action, Ahmed requested them to expedite the roadworks and ensure their swift completion.
He further took to social media platform ‘X’ (previously known as Twitter) to voice his concerns. Revanth Reddy pledges to eliminate drug menace with iron hand
HYDERABAD: Telangana Chief Minister Anumala Revanth Reddy visited the Telangana Command & Control Centre (TGCCC) on July 2 (Tuesday). Reddy chaired an interaction meeting with Law and Order officers from the Tri-Commissionerates of Hyderabad, Cyberabad, and Rachakonda. During the meeting, he emphasized the government’s commitment to curbing drug abuse and making Telangana a drug-free state.
CM Revanth Reddy highlighted the government’s determination to tackle the drug menace with stringent measures. This year, authorities registered 1,892 cases under the NDPS Act, arrested 3,792 accused, and seized contraband worth Rs. 179.3 crores. The Telangana Anti-Narcotics Bureau (TGANB) has frozen properties worth Rs. 47.16 crores belonging to narco offenders and their associates.
TGNAB gets Rs. 50 crore grant
The Telangana Anti-Narcotics Bureau, established in 2023, struggled initially due to insufficient funds. However, Reddy promptly released necessary funds, significantly enhancing the bureau’s performance. The government set up a state-of-the-art narcotics lab and allocated Rs. 50 crores to the bureau. He also said that, preparations are underway to establish seven Regional Narcotics Control Centres (RNCCs) and four new narcotic police stations in the next few months.
Reddy also announced that the government has provided new vehicles, including 20 Innovas, seven Boleros, and 59 motorcycles, to the bureau. Additionally, 170 new staff positions were sanctioned, and anti-narcotic personnel are now entitled to a 60% additional allowance for their efforts.

The Chief Minister noted that TGANB conducted extensive raids in cities like Mumbai, Kolkata, Bangalore, Chennai, and Goa to apprehend drug suppliers and their associates. These efforts led to the arrest of key criminals linked to international drug networks. The bureau has also established seven narcotic labs equipped with the latest technologies to trace and detect drug trafficking.
In 790 cases, authorities arrested 1,556 individuals and seized contraband worth Rs. 77 crores. Raids on four Alprazolam manufacturing units resulted in the seizure of 28.5 kg of Alprazolam and 560 kg of chloral hydrate. The state has formed 3,600 Anti-Drug Committees in schools and colleges to prevent drug abuse.
The government has succeeded in confiscating properties of criminals and their relatives under the PIT-NDPS Act, with assets worth Rs. 47.16 crores seized in five cases. A total of 36,662 kg of cannabis worth Rs. 84.6 crores was destroyed using environmentally friendly methods.
Advanced training and technology
TGANB works closely with central agencies like NCB, FRRO, IB, and DGPs of other states. The bureau coordinates with 137 police stations, 10 District Task Forces, eight Task Forces, and seven Special Operation Zones.
The bureau uses advanced technologies, including 20 types of test kits for detecting intoxicating substances and AI-based tools for mapping drug cultivation. With the Mitra App, TGANB identified 536 drug addicts and provided medical assistance through state-run de-addiction and rehabilitation centers.
The Chief Minister also highlighted the state’s comprehensive anti-drug campaign, which includes awareness programs, distribution of 40,000 posters, and sensitization efforts through songs, dramas, and short films.

Hyderabad: The Telangana Anti-Narcotics Bureau (TGANB) launched a program to reward people with information on illegal transportation of Ganja. Individuals with credible information on such activities can be eligible for a reward of up to Rs. 2 lakhs.
The Telangana Anti-Narcotics Bureau (TGANB) has assured complete confidentiality to informants. They can report such activities through various social media platforms including Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, WhatsApp, LinkedIn and Youtube. A QR code has also been released for easy access. People can also directly message on the number 87126 71111 or send an email to tsnabho-hyd@tspolice.gov.in
This initiative is a step towards curbing the flow of illegal drugs in Telangana. The anonymity provided to informants is expected to encourage more people to come forward with information.
It was learned that Secunderabad Railway Police busted an interstate ganja Smuggling racket and arrested a drug peddler on July 2 Tuesday. The police have reportedly seized 20 kgs of Ganja worth five lakhs from his possession.
The drug peddler identified as Md. Farid is transporting Dry Ganja from Balugaon of Odisha State to Mumbai via Secunderabad to hand over to one Panda at Mumbai for selling the same to needy people on higher price.
On June 30 as per the directions of main peddler Sahu who belongs to Balugaon, the accused Md. Farid took 20 kgs of Dry Ganja in a Trolley Suitcase and backpack bag from Sahu and was smuggling it to Mumbai to hand over to Panda. On Tuesday while the GRP staff conducting checking in Konark Express, at PF No.01 of Secunderabad Railway Station, meantime the Police apprehended the accused in Konark Express.
Secunderabad police have organized surprise checking against the Drugs peddlers on platforms and trains at Secunderabad Railway Station, and apprehended one male accused who was transporting Dry Ganja from Balugaon of Odisha State to Mumbai via Secunderabad by Konark Express. The police have booked a case under NDPS act and further investigation is underway.
B. Saieashwar Goud, IRP/SHO and D.Ramesh SIRP along with K.Venugopal RHC 267, B. Harilal RPC 621, V.Kumar RPC 494, V.Ramu RPC 561, K.Bhavani Shankar RPC 489 and K.Chandra Shekar RPC 35 of RPS Secunderabad were apprehended the accused under the supervision of Smt. Chandana Deepti IPS, Superintendent of Police and S.N. Jawed, DSRP SC(U). ADGP Railway and Road Safety Mahesh M Bhagwat IPS appreciated the officers and men of GRP Secunderabad and they will be rewarded suitably.
Earlier, GRP Secunderabad District destroyed about 1,575 Kgs of Ganja seized in 52 Cases worth rupees 4 Crores at Romo Industries, Turkapur Village, Bhongir.
