Hyderabad: A 35-year-old private employee in Hyderabad fell victim to cyber fraud, impersonating an HDFC Bank official. The woman, who wished to remain anonymous, lost Rs. 7,50,000 (seven lakh fifty thousand rupees only).

According to the cybercrime police, the incident began with a phone call allegedly from HDFC Bank. The caller informed the victim of a newly issued credit card in her name and unauthorized transactions on the account. The caller pressured the victim to make an immediate payment to avoid deductions from her bank account. However, the victim firmly denied ever applying for or receiving any credit card.

The scammer exploited the victim’s fear by claiming the card originated from Mumbai. They further fabricated a story alleging the victim’s Aadhaar card was involved in creating four additional fraudulent accounts across different states. These accounts, the scammer claimed, were linked to a money laundering scheme of Rs. 25-30 lakhs.

The fraudster further threatened her with a fictitious CBI investigation and a potential arrest warrant if she didn’t cooperate. Later, the scammer initiated a video call disguised as a police officer, adding a layer of legitimacy to their threats.

The scammer instructed her to close both fixed deposits and transfer the combined sum of Rs. 7,50,000 to a designated account. To maintain secrecy, the scammer fabricated the transfer as a ‘national secret’ sanctioned by the Supreme Court, demanding an RTGS transfer with a promised refund upon investigation completion within seven days.

Upon returning to the office and confiding in colleagues, the victim realized she had been scammed. She immediately filed a complaint with the authorities seeking assistance. The Cybercrime Police are investigating the case.

Victims of cyber financial fraud are advised to report the incident immediately by dialing the National Cyber Crime Helpline number 1930 or visiting the official portal, cybercrime.gov.in.

Hyderabad: The National Commission for Women (NCW) has taken a suo moto case of the alleged gang rape of a 26-year-old woman by her colleagues in Hyderabad. The commission has condemned the heinous act and sought a report from the Telangana Director General of Police (DGP).

The NCW chairperson has written to the DGP demanding a fair and time-bound investigation. They have also requested the State to provide the victim with free medical treatment and compensation. The commission has directed the state to submit a detailed action-taken report within three days.

Two sales executives from a real estate firm were arrested on Wednesday for allegedly drugging, raping, and assaulting their colleague. The incident reportedly occurred inside a car on the night of June 30.

The accused, identified as Sanga Reddy (39) and Janardhan Reddy (25), have been arrested and sent to judicial remand.

The 26-year-old victim, who recently arrived in Hyderabad from Andhra Pradesh’s Kadapa district, reported the incident on July 2.

According to her complaint, Sanga Reddy and Janardhan approached her on June 30, offering to show her a property site. They suggested she freshen up at a hostel in Miyapur before picking her up later.

After collecting her from the hostel at noon, the accused drove her to the designated site. Upon returning around 9:00 pm, they allegedly stopped the car at an under-construction building, claiming it had broken down. They offered her drinks and sweets, which she initially refused. However, she reported feeling dizzy after consuming them.

The accused are then alleged to have taken advantage of her state, undressing her, groping her, and verbally abusing her. The assault reportedly continued throughout the night until 3:00 am on July 1, leaving the victim with severe body pain. The men then allegedly dropped her off at the hostel and fled.

The police investigation led to the arrest of the accused, who are currently in judicial remand.

Hyderabad: In a bid for online fame, an influencer has sparked public concern and police attention with a dangerous stunt. The influencer, identified on Instagram as @its_me_power_, has been filmed throwing money onto busy roads in Hyderabad, attracting crowds, and performing stunts on a two-wheeler without a helmet.

Sheshasai, a resident of Hyderabad, brought the incident to light on the social media platform ‘X,’ previously known as Twitter. Sheshasai expressed frustration at the influencer’s actions, tagging the Hyderabad City Police, Telangana DGP, Rachakonda Commissionerate, Cyberabad Police, and Hyderabad Traffic Police in a post that read: “While you remain silent all the time, influencers like this are creating a nuisance by throwing money/notes on public roads. Why don’t you act on these people? Your silence is encouraging them more.”

Sheshasai further urged the traffic authorities of Hyderabad and Cyberabad Traffic Police to intervene, requesting action against the influencer for performing stunts without a helmet on public roads.

In an earlier post on June 27, Sheshasai said, “While police in the North arrest influencers who promote betting apps, police in Telangana don’t take any action even after sending them videos of influencers throwing currency notes in public on main roads, too. I reached out to multiple police stations, but no Station House Officer (SHO) is worried.”

The influencer has 3,26,000 Instagram followers and is known for creating bizarre content to gain fame. Throwing money onto roads appears to be a recurring theme in his videos, potentially causing traffic disruptions and safety hazards.

In a video, the influencer arrogantly said, “I will throw and I will continue to throw the money in coming days also. What will you do?”

The incident has sparked debate about influencer culture and the lengths some individuals go for online attention. Authorities have yet to comment on the situation, but it remains to be seen if any action will be taken against the influencer.
