Monsoon Preparation Cantonment Residents Demand Set Up Of Disaster Management Team

Secunderabad: With the rainy season around the corner, residents of Secunderabad Cantonment Board are expressing concerns regarding the lack of emergency disaster management teams and maintenance of open nalas ahead of the upcoming monsoon season. Urging the officials to get into action, Telukunta Satish Gupta, a social activist filed a petition to Secunderabad Cantonment Board(SCB) on Thursday.

Gupta highlighted the dire need for immediate action to clear debris-clogged drainage systems that threaten public health and heighten the risk of flooding. Gupta in his appeal emphasised on critical infrastructure repairs.

“As the monsoon season is fast approaching, and with it comes the increased risk of flooding and waterlogging in our area. The open nalas in Ward-5 are currently in a state of disrepair and are clogged with debris, which significantly hampers the natural drainage of rainwater. This not only poses a threat to public health but also increases the potential for flooding and related disasters,” read the letter submitted to CEO Secunderabad Cantonment Board.

Further in the letter he listed out some of the areas which require immediate assistance such as replacement of drainage pipe lines at Brook Bond Cly where 30 feet length pipeline to be changed, at Vikrampuri Colony where 60 feet length pipeline to be change, at New Vasavi Nagar Sector B where 60 feet pipeline to be changed and at Vasavi B where 350 feet pipeline to be changed.

Establish emergency disaster management teams, like GHMC

He urged the SCB for immediate attention for cleaning open nalas in Cantonment Ward-5 and there is a need of an emergency disaster management team in preparation for the upcoming rainy season as in GHMC.

Emphasising the establishment of a dedicated disaster management team to safeguard residents against the anticipated seasonal deluge Gupta said, “Establishment of a dedicated emergency disaster management team equipped to handle any flooding or water logging incidents. Coordination with local authorities and residents to ensure swift response and mitigation efforts during emergencies is the need of the hour”.

“The proactive measures outlined above will significantly reduce the risk of flooding and ensure the safety and well-being of residents in Cantonment Ward-5” said Gupta appealing to treat the matter with the urgency it deserves and initiate the necessary actions promptly.
