MEIL makes highest contribution of Rs 980 crore to Electoral Bonds from Hyderabad

HYDERABAD: Hyderabad-based infrastructure firm Megha Engineering and Infrastructure Ltd (MEIL) stands out as one of the major contributors to electoral bonds, with a substantial donation of Rs 980 crores between April 2019 and November 2023.

Yashoda Hospitals in Hyderabad, owned by G Ravinder Rao and G Surender Rao, also made a notable contribution of Rs 3 crore. Additionally, Navayuga Engineering, the primary contractor for the Polavaram Irrigation project, donated Rs 55 crore and Hetero Group, donated Rs 60 crore
to electoral bonds.

Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories contributed Rs 80 crores, followed closely by Natco Pharma with Rs 70 crores. Aurobindo Pharma also made a notable contribution of Rs 50 crores, while MSN Pharma Group and Greenko each contributed Rs 38 crores and Rs 35 crores, respectively. Additionally, Rajapushpa and My Home Group have contributed Rs 35 crores and Rs 20 crores, respectively.

These contributions have been utilised by a wide array of political parties, including BJP, BRS, YSRCP, Janasena, Congress, AIADMK, Shiv Sena, and others, according to the Election Commission of India.

Bharatiya Rashtra Samithi (BRS), secured the fourth position in the country by receiving a substantial sum of Rs 913 crore through electoral bonds from 2017-18 to 2022-23.
