CBI books Megha Engineering for bribing steel ministry officials

HYDERABAD:Megha Engineering and Infrastructure Limited (MEIL) booked for paying 78 lakh to NMDC officers to get bills worth 174 crores cleared. The CBI registered an FIR on March 31.

Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has lodged criminal cases against Megha Engineering and Infrastructure Limited for bribing. These include eight officers from the National Mineral Development Corporation (NMDC) Iron and Steel Plant. This is to approve bills for contract works valued at 314.57 crores. Which is related to the works of the intake well, pump house, and cross-country pipeline at the integrated steel plant in Jagdalpur.

Among the accused are MEIL, its general manager Subhash Chandra Sangras; NMDC Limited’s executive director (now retired) Prasant Dash; NMDC director (production)/NISP director Dilip Kumar Mohanty; NISP deputy general manager Pradeep Kumar Bhuyan; deputy manager (survey) Naresh Babu, senior manager Suvro Banerjee, and chief general manager (finance) L. Krishna Mohan (now retired).
MEIL is one of the biggest electoral bond donors to BJP and BRS, and the second largest donor to INC.

The company donated 584 crores to BJP, 195 crores to BRS, 85 crores to DMK, 37 crores to YSRCP. And 28 crores to TDP, 18 crores to INC through electoral bonds.
